Review
Ford Mondeo (00 - 07)
This still used the same chassis as the outgoing model. That meant it could still lead the line in terms of ride quality and handling. In comparison to its predecessor, it was much better to look at, and still doesn’t look dated. There’s plenty going on in the cabin: it’s spacious, comfortable, has a good level of standard equipment and feels really high-end. The only downside is that leg room in the rear is not as good as some rivals but that wouldn’t be a deal breaker. Like the outgoing model, it handles exceptionally well; ride quality is excellent and it is highly economical. There are excellent diesels especially and if you are looking for performance the 2.2-litre TDCi is a good place to start. It pumps out 155bhp and 266nm of torque, while returning around 46 miles to the gallon.
Look out for
• There were some reports of water leakage through the front door seals
What we like
• Spacious interior; can seat five
• The ride quality is smooth and the handling is excellent
• Interior is well-built; looks and feels top quality
• As well as a great performance, it is really easy on fuel
• Has a huge boot; practical all round
What we don't like
• There can be a lot of wind noise in the cabin when driving at high speeds
• The ride quality can be a bit firm on the larger-wheeled cars
